One can't define culture narrowly by taking into view some special phase of human social organization and achievement

This done when problem stated as:
Christ’s relation to science and philosophy,
in question of revelation and reason,
or his relation to political organization such as relation of church & state

It is also done when someone like Jakob Burkhardt has culture distinguished
from both religion and state…he considers religion, state, and culture as
heterogeneous..to him culture is distinguished from other two by its non
authoritarian character

*"It is especially arbitrary and confusing to define culture as though t excluded relgon, and the latter as though it included Christ"
